Program Description
Skillfully create an enjoyable & developmentally appropriate thematic yoga class.
During these 32 hours you will acquire a true understanding of yoga and mindfulness as well as an appreciation of the developmental and behavioral needs of pre-school and elementary children so that you are well positioned to share your teachings in a thematic way that is both meaningful to your students and well received by your students. At the conclusion of the the training you will know how to skillfully create and teach a thematic class format that is safe, fun and developmentally tailored for specific age groups within the range of ages 3- 10.
Learn to keep behavioral disruptions to a minimum.
Teaching yoga to children requires so much more than teaching children yoga poses. You will learn how to tap into your own inner child and learn how to see the world through the eyes of your students so that you can communicate effectively, set appropriate limits, and enable your students to not only benefit physically and emotionally, but to look forward to the lessons you will teach.
Allow children to discover the benefits of Mindfulness Meditation on & off the mat. Mindfulness practice allows one to be fully present in each moment so that we are able to find more fulfillment in life, process our feelings with greater ease and communicate with others more compassionately. Many trainees learn and practice mindfulness for the first time when they enroll in the Yoga Child training and are pleased to find it to be a useful practice for reducing stress in their own lives as well as in the lives of their students.
The Yoga Child Curriculum is enjoyable and memorable for young children because it employs the following techniques to teach important life lessons.
Inspirational Yoga Themes
Magical meditations
Yoga Games
Original music and songs
Literature, Stories and Poetry
Yoga Journaling
Thematically significant craft and art projects
And Off the mat lessons in mindfulness
Upon Completion of the core Training, your apprenticeship will begin, ( unless you have elected a fall apprenticeship period), and you will receive an assigned Yoga Child Mentor and have up to 8 months to complete your apprenticeship. It is not mandatory that you teach on behalf of Yoga Child. Those who teach on behalf of Yoga Child will be required to sign a Teaching agreement or independent contractor agreement. This enables us to protect the interests of the many happy hardworking Yoga Child Teachers in Philadelphia and to protect the growing business interests of our organization while also defining your role as a yoga child teacher. Those who do not wish to teach on behalf of YC, but who instead wish to teach on their own elect to become licensed Yoga Child Teachers and sign the appropriate paperwork and follow the YC teaching guidelines. See more detail below in the next section.
If you live out of state or more than 60 miles from Yoga Child, you will be recognized as a Yoga Child instructor and will receive your Yoga Child Teaching Certificate upon completion of the core training and apprenticeship. Registration and FAQ's
1. I have heard that I might have to work for Yoga Child and that I can't teach anywhere else if I take your training. Is that true? No. That is not true. If you would like to be to receive paid teaching placements provided by Yoga Child you can and would become what we all an independent contractor for Yoga Child. If you choose to do this, thenany childrens classes that you teach would be done through YC. If you do not want to receive paid teaching placements from Yoga Child, but instead would like to teach the Yoga Child program on your own then there is an option to become a Certified & Licensed Yoga Child Yoga Instructor. The differences between the two options are outlined below and the agreements are available in detail under the registration section.

Heather Marie Miller, Bryn Mawr PA, 2010 graduate
Thank you for the inspiring, fun, and overall just wonderful Yoga Child training. What a gift you have for teaching people how to connect with children - and not just children, but with mindfulness and with yoga. I'm amazed at the energy you exuded throughout the training, and how you freely shared it with us. As you said about Gurmukh - ie., that she inspires people with her energy/love/exuberance to find more energy within themselves - you do the same with your student trainees. May the energy, love, mindfulness and tlc inside of you be inspired and present in all of your teachers, and the children and students in your classes. Surely your passion is changing peoples' lives.
Gratefully,
Heather Marie
Kelly Miller, East Falls, 2009 graduate
Yoga Child's Teacher Training was fantastic! Gail did a wonderful job of breaking down the components of a children's yoga class and gave us great examples and ideas. By observing actual classes and student teaching, I was able to put what I learned into practice. Overall, it was an incredible learning experience and I feel very confident in my ability to teach!
Maria Hier, Milan Italy, 2007 graduate
Thank you for the great Yoga Child Teacher Training. I had a wonderful time in your Yoga Studio! I am back as a 24-hour-Mom, without real "personal" time, but I feel how your training has changed me. Often I speak like Gail did, or I do breathing exercises and yoga while playing with my children, and they just LOVE it. It is amazing! Grazie! I wish you a wonderful time with a lot of sunshine!
Namaste
Kim Fleisher, Philadelphia, 2006 graduate
The Yoga Child Teacher Training program did a great job preparing me to teach yoga to children. I loved the combination of reading, discussion and hands-on work. I also loved the manual. The course prepared me to work with children and families of varying ages and needs.
Great Job!
Robin Trent, Philadelphia, 2004 graduate
The Yoga Child training made me feel like I really do have something amazing to offer to children. Sometimes sweet and wise words that Gail has spoken run through my head; significant to what is happening at the moment. For instance, some children just need to lay down and rest. I see this often in the classes that I teach in schools through Yoga Child. Kids are tired. Gail's words help me remember that I am offering them a time to turn into a snake and hiss and stretch, and also a place to “restore and replenish.” . After the training, Gail is still there to offer support and advice. Gail gave me confidence. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had working with kids."
Robin Trent, Philadelphia
