Kudos!! |
Yoga Child thanks Philadelphia Magazine for its best of Philly award for the Yoga Child kids program and extends its appreciation to the Parents Choice Foundation for its 2007 award of our Yoga Child Cd; A Peaceful Place inside.
Benefits of Yoga |
Yoga is a healthy way to exercise, replenish energy and enjoy non-competitive fun while promoting discipline & confidence and improving strength, flexibility and coordination. A regular yoga practice reduces stress and can even improve ones ability to focus attention. Regardless of what you are hoping your child will gain from yoga you can be sure that yoga class is a place where every child can succeed.
Our Yoga Program |
Class begins with a yoga-based game to help release energy constructively. Yoga games are followed by magical meditations where children learn how simple breathing exercises can be fun, functional and feel great. Next up is the asana portion of class where we teach yoga poses designed to promote physical conditioning and emotional wellbeing. This is done through the use of playful or introspective themes depending upon the age of the class. Some sample themes are Adventures in the Mystical Rainforest, A Journey Through Space, Expanding Self awareness and Working together with others. Our theme continues with one of the following: a quiet yoga game, yoga journaling, yoga art, yoga music and vocalization from our non-denominational Yoga Child Cd, or yoga literature where we combine yoga asana with stories and poetry. Class always ends with a replenishing rest time called Savasana.
What happens in a Family Yoga or Family Movement Class? |
These classes are similar in format to our just kids class but the yoga is taught in a way that is interactive between parent and child. In a family movement class you will find more music and creative movement.
Our Yoga Dance Program |
Join us to see how the benefits of yoga join the eloquent flow of
dance!
In addition to our award winning kids yoga classes we have added
an inspiring yoga dance program where the world of yoga joyfully enhances
the world of dance in a non- competitive and supportive space.
Within the serene environment of a yoga studio, we have created a program
combining the freedom and appreciation of movement with the restorative mindfulness
of yoga. Through a 6 week series, students will experience a mix of classes
drawn from the following styles of dance:
Ballet, Modern, Hip hop, and Cultural
In each series we will have the opportunity to explore these formats
through age appropriate yoga dance games, dance routines and accompanying music. Our award winning kids Yoga program will be delicately woven into each class so that our students can enjoy the many benefits of yoga in addition to having their dance fun!

What are the Co-op classes ? |
All kids classes for the tender ages of 3-5 are co-op classes. This means that one parent from the class must remain in the studio each week to assist the yoga instructor. You can join the group or sit up front and relax. We just need you here to assist with bathroom needs or behavior issues.
Make Up Class policy |
One make up class is available to you each session if there is space in another age appropriate class. Please note that make ups must be done during the 6 or 8 week session for which you originally registered. Make ups can not be extended into subsequent sessions under any circumstances. If there is no other age appropriate class available, we invite you to drop into an adult class. You must come to the adult class during the 6 week session for which your child is registered. No exceptions
Inclement Weather Policy |
We usually hold class even on snowy days. We cancel class if it the teacher can not make it to the studio. If the teacher can not make it in you should receive a call from the teacher or the studio staff letting you know. If the weather is unforseen and our teacher doesn't have your number at home and the studio is not staffed on that particular day it is possible that you may not receive a call. On such a day we will leave a message on our voicemail at the studio that class or classes are cancelled. In order to make up a snowy day cancellation you can attend another kids class during the current session or attend an adult yoga class during the current session.

Can't make it to a Yoga Class, but want your child to enjoy the benefits of Yoga? |
Check out our nationally recognized In-School Yoga Program
You can do this on our website by going to the home page and clicking
on the circle icon for In-School.
You will get plenty of details there, but here is a teaser. We provide an
in school yoga curriculum to many Philadelphia Schools,Pre-schools and youth
facilites. The cost averages between $65-$75 per hour and we usually work
with a class for a minimum of one school year, but will work on a semester
basis if we have staff available. The school usually subsidizes the cost of
the program, however some schools obtain support from outside agencies, the
home and school association, and fundraising efforts. In some schools parents
pay for the classes.
Please contact Gail at 215 238 0989 and she can help you find a way
to make yoga a part of your Child's school day.
